The Secrets Stories Hidden in Old Buildings by Joe Thompson – carpenter-in-residence at the Weald and Downland Museum (The BBC series ‘The Repair Shop is filmed here). Not to be missed
One of the charms of old buildings is the number of stories they have seen. Timber-framed buildings in particular bear witness to this as many of the processes of fabrication and alteration leave visible marks on the surfaces. When timber-frame buildings are dismantled even more information can be revealed and interpreted. This talk will discuss two recent conservation projects carried out at the Weald and Downland Museum, from dismantling via repair to rearing up.
Joe Thompson, carpenter-in-residence at the Weald and Downland Museum, has been working with historic timber-framed buildings for over thirty years. His interests are focused on the traditional materials, tools and techniques used to prefabricate timber-framed buildings and passing on this knowledge.
