Gentry in the Landscape

15th March 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Thursday 15th March at 8.00 pm

Gentry in the Landscape

Geoffrey Mead

Firle Place has been home to the Gage family since circa 1470, when they moved into ‘the old house’ and even then they had married into the family that were the previous manorial holders. The village and its surrounding landscape has been heavily influenced by this continuity of landownership and the history of the land and family mirrors aspects of British history. This talk looks at aspects of Firle, its geology and landscapes, farming and settlements, Firle Place and cottage homes. Geoffrey Mead is an excellent speaker and we are delighted to welcome him back again to WHS.
