An Old House: discovering timber-framed buildings and their people

21st June 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This richly-illustrated talk brings the Sussex timber-framing tradition to life,  showing why the carpenters’ skilled work can last over 500 years, portraying the people who lived here in the 15th and 16th centuries, how they furnished their homes, and their farming life. Based on research into a Chailey hall house, the talk will also show details such as how many trees were needed to build it, and reveal the evil-averting (apotropaic) signs to be found in almost all old houses.
